How can I keep the lights off with the Candles Remote Control when it says at the bottom of the card "If you're in a "Darkness" space:return the Overlay card..." Because when I stand on tile A1 to reveal card C that tile turns to "Darkness" but I'm then in a "Darkness" space so I have to return the overlay card before I can even activate the new actions on it. I'm confused.
Same then happens when I stand on tile A2 and draw card D and Tile B2 and reveal card E.
It's a switch, so you can use it to turn the lights on or off. If you use the device on tile A1/A2/B2 while there is darkness, you simply remove the overlay to return to the starting position (and get rid of too many coackroaches?). But you also loose the extra possibilities the darkness offers and you need to use the switch again to regain them.
I interpreted card G's final line of text as an alternate action: you can use the candle remote to "turn the lights on" to remove the overlay. Flavor-wise and mechanic wise, this checks out IMO. You won't get stuck in the infinite loop you are describing either. In short, the item turns on the lights when you are using it in a specific tile (add overlay), and can also reverse that action (discards overlay cards).
I had the same belief playing this dream, I got around it by using inner light or the torch item to light up the space first before switching off the lights so the overlay didn’t immediately get removed. however... looking at the card again now it looks like that effect is only triggered if u do the action again (so it allows u to use the remote control to switch the lights on again but as an action it is not a forced effect). Hope that makes sense. I’m still confused about the wardrobe action getting locked out though.
