I may switch from Specialist to Free Spirit. I see her first memory goal is to reach step two of the path, which I’ve already done. Would she just automatically succeed at that then?

Hi!
If Free Spirit joins the game after the 2nd step was already resolved, she immediately meets the First Memory requirements and resolves the corresponding script.
Ooooo.... technically, the first memories resolves on completing step 2, so if you already completed step 2, you could never resolve the first memories. But that's a shame, so I suggest to resolve it as you like - either asap or when the next mystery path is completed.
